The Ashton Hope Keegan Foundation Scholarship Application

The Ashton Hope Keegan Foundation’s charter is to provide scholarships and material support to women pursuing either their GED, or Certification training (ie.  Technical Certification Training, Phlebotomist, Nursing Assistant, Etc).

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Scholarship applicants must currently be a resident of the state of Georgia and a resident of one of the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe.  Proof of residency is required.
  2. Applicants should be a woman desiring to better their life through education and job training.
  3. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications will be evaluated based on the information provided; therefore, all questions should be answered as thoroughly as possible. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  4. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a number of criteria: Your goals, Your plan for reaching your goals, Your plan to use your education to give back to your community
  5. Applicants must provide two letters of recommendation to be uploaded into the questionnaire. Each letter must include the name, address, email and phone number of the author of each reference letter. (Letters from family members will not be accepted)
  6. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, and/or physical impairment.

Completing the Application:

  • I don’t have internet access at home. How can I complete the application?
    • You may access the online scholarship application on any computer connected to the internet. You may use a computer at your school, your public library, or a friend’s home. Remember that the application requires two letters of recommendation to be uploaded, so plan accordingly.
  • Will I need an e-mail address to complete the application?
    • Yes. If you do not have an e-mail address, you may obtain a free e-mail address using,, or, etc.
  • What if I need more space than is provided in the areas for my education, life, career goals, accomplishments and volunteer history?
    • If you have more information that you would like to share than will fit in the area provided, you may wish to include only the most recent experiences, or those that are most important to you.
  • Can I upload a resume instead of completing the application?
    • No. Fill in all of the questions. Do not send extra documents.
  • I completed the first question on scholarship application form but received a message to immediately submit. What does that mean?
    • If the response you provided in the online application shows you to be ineligible for an AHK Foundation scholarship, you will not be able to move forward with the application process. Review our eligibility guidelines listed above.

Recommendation Letters:

  • Can I submit letters of recommendation from more than two references? 
    • No. The online application system will only allow you to enter two references. You will be required to upload their recommendations directly to the system
  • What format do the letters of recommendation need to be? 
    • Word document or PDF document is preferred.
  • What if I don’t know of anyone to write a professional or academic reference for me?
    • You may ask someone familiar with your personal situation and/or academic goals, such as an employer, a co-worker, a counselor, or a volunteer supervisor. Choose references who you are confident know you well enough to write a positive, personalized recommendation. You may NOT submit a recommendation from a family member.
  • Can a family member submit a letter of recommendation on my behalf?
    • No, letters of recommendation from family members will not be accepted.


Selection Process:

  1. When will the scholars be chosen?
    • Our selection process takes place between March and May. Final selection will take place in June 2020 and recipients will be notified in July 2020.
  2. How will I know if I’m chosen?
    • Scholarship recipients will be notified by phone in July. If your application is disqualified due to ineligibility, you will be notified by e-mail immediately. All other applicants will be notified of their status by e-mail after application review is complete in June.
  3. When will the scholarships be awarded?
    • AHK Foundation scholarships will be distributed through recipients’ financial aid offices starting in the Spring of 2021.
